Connecting Dots

(a poem)

white finger tips

press over bumps

smears orange dust

on Forgotten Road

red circles are

Family Camps

in Nature they

move on together

Black History

gone Walkabout

blind fingertips

feel bumps like braille

Emu centred

important Food

for a hunger

never satisfied

Emu has come

with Story in

darkness of my

australian house

many people

made colours from

earth connecting

dots to remember

the image of

Black History

in Art we can

move on Together

This ekphrastic poem was written in accumulation of my life-long battle as an Australian history teacher in connection with this painting I bought at Albury markets by Lorraine Williams, an Indigenous Australian painter and mum.
